Wardrobe selection is one of the most important elements of your headshot. You want something that looks good on you, but you have to remember – what looks good on you in person may be way too much for a headshot. Busy patterns, bright colors, and clashing accents can lead to something like this first image of Leigh. The viewer’s attention is drawn away from her face and to the scarf and the loud blouse pattern.
In the second image, your focus falls on her beautiful eyes and smile first. The purple is a nice accent, but does not distract. You might also notice that second wardrobe choice also brings her back down to her actual weight – where the scarf actually added 10 pounds.
Choose your wardrobe carefully – it can make a huge difference.
A special thank you goes out to Leigh and all the actors who helped with this blog project. They were great sports in letting me purposely photograph them badly.
